                                  Screamin' "Bettie Page in Orbit"

                                  Picture
This is an original "Screamin" kit entitled "Bettie page in Orbit" produced in the mid to late 90's.  This was a particularly aggravating kit as I found the kit quality to be somewhat poor.  Maybe this, based on the first resin kit produced by "Screamin".  Pieces didn't seem to fit well, casting was poor with a great deal of filling and sanding required.  It is in a roughly 1/6th scale and contained somewhere around 12 pieces - nearly half of which is the included rocket and base.  I was however, pleased that the clear dome of her helmet was in good shape and free from scratches and such.  The clear "rod" supplied for mounting the rocket and Bettie to the base is not near sturdy enough to hold the heavy model, so it was replaced with brass tubing.  But, in toughing out the project, the final piece was exceptional.  Bettie was painted in light, natural, peachy cream colored skin tones with the traditional black hair.  Her space outfit painted in metallic purple with gold trim.  The rocket in metallic, brushed silver with a black nose cone.  For detail, a stainless steel tip was added to the rocket along with some painted rivets.  Numerous pin heads were added around her helmet dome and smoke was created using cotton batting as found at most sewing stores.  A black "seal" was added around the base of her clear dome and was left "removable".  A circular black base was added under the original "moon rock" base to create a more appealing display.  "Sceamin" long since out of business, but some kits can sometimes be found popping up on eBay.
